Today, “imagining a better place” for oneself becomes a survival strategy as much as anything else. These drawings are small maps that are intended to become part of a larger atlas that attempts to chart a path into the world as I imagine it could be, or as I believe it “ought” to be.

This work is inspired by the “Oughtness Maps” of the 1960’s in which people struggling to claim a sense of ownership of their lives set out to map the world not as it merely was, but as it “ought to be”. These maps are based on the belief that if we can imagine it, we can realize it; that through this imagining we can literally change the geography of our lives.
